Q: My husband is suffering from a cold. He has minor muscle aches, major chest congestion (with some cough, but not a lot), and nasal congestion. I am looking for what YOU do to beat a cold. I have read many ideas, but wondering what YOU have tried lately that has actually WORKED for you. I want to know either your best home remedies, or which ever over-the-counter meds you have tried like Theraflu, Zycam, ect.... What works for you?

A: For the common cold, I have always used Zicam Rapid Melts with excellent results (make sure you read the instructions on how and when to take it). However, you mention that you husband has muscle aches as well as the congestion. That could be indicative of the flu and that will only go away with rest and time since it is caused by a virus. For comfort, he could take tylenol flu. In the past, I have taken that and while it did not rid my miserable feelings, it did make things more manageable.
