Which is worse for newborn? Mold in our carpet or cheap carpet that out-gasses toxic chemicals?

Q: We live in the basement apartment for which we still have 5 month on our lease. We just had a flood that resulted in mold in the carpets (which they were supposed to have had replaced already but have not) and some mold on the drywall. They are coming to replace the carpet on Monday. I expect to be delivering newborn within next 2 days. I studied the carpet they will be installing (the cheap kind) and it almost seems more toxic than the mold. We have no other place to go. Should we tell them to skip the carpet installation until we can find a place to move to or should we get the carpet replaced?

A: Take the new carpet and get some house plants. Philidendron and Spider Plants and especially good at pulling toxins out of the environment.
